December Shopping is for the Birds

Exciting News! New Morning Market in Woodbury is again going to donate 10% of their profits in December to the Audubon Center Bent of the River.

If you shop at New Morning this month, you will help advance conservation for the benefit of birds, wildlife, and people in our area. Since New Morning’s inaugural “December Shopping Is for the Birds” event in 2015, the store has raised more than $10,000 in support of Bent of the River’s mission to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity.

John Pittari, owner of New Morning, views the store’s longstanding relationship with Audubon as intrinsic to New Morning’s mission and recognizes “We can’t have sustainable and healthy foods without taking care of our natural environment.”

Thank you to YOU, John Pittari, and New Morning Market for your shared dedication to nature! Please also join us at the following upcoming events.

Story Time and Crafts at New Morning Market (with Kate Pratt from Audubon Center Bent of the River)

Thursday, December 6, at 10:00 a.m. - Free Event: Kate will be reading Elwood Bigfoot: Wanted: Birdie Friends! He is big, clumsy, LOUD . . . and lonely. It's hard for him to make friends--especially with the tiny, delicate birdies he loves so much. After the story, everyone can create and decorate a bird mask.

Thursday, December 13, at 10:00 a.m. - Free Event: Kate will be reading Woodpecker Wham! Enter a woodpecker world and get a bird's eye view of everyday life: hiding from hawks, feeding hungry chicks, and drilling holes to build homes. The craft for this story is to color a tree with a woodpecker hole which hides some very special animals.

Thursday, December 20, at 10:00 a.m. - Free Event: Kate will be reading Birds by Kevin Henkes. In what the New York Times Book Review calls “a perfect book,” a little girl watches birds from her window and dreams she can fly. The craft will be to create and decorate a simple bird puppet.

Registration for all events is required through the New Morning website.
